Songwriter Choi Hee-jin Held in Blackmail Scandal

Songwriter Choi Hee-jin was arrested Wednesday for online slander and blackmail of singer Tae Jin-ah and his son Eru, also a singer and the songwriter's former boyfriend. Judge Kim Sang-hwan at the Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant saying there was a chance she would flee or destroy evidence. Bangbae police in Seoul said Choi on eight occasions times between Jan. 18 and Sept. 7 claimed on her blog that she was forced to have an abortion, beaten and verbally abused by Tae and Eru. She also demanded W100 million (US$1=W1,128) in compensation. Choi is also accused of sending text messages to another former boyfriend, a 40-year-old man identified as Kim, threatening she would tell his current girlfriend about their relationship, and extorted W8 million from Kim in exchange for keeping quiet. Police said Choi admitted "most of the charges" made by Tae and Eru.
