The G20 Summit in Seoul on Nov. 11 and 12 will draw around 15,000 participants from Korea and abroad, counting leaders and their entourage, reporters and summit staff. The G20 heads of state will arrive aboard 42 chartered planes, and 250 limousines will transport them through the capital. To feed them, the best ingredients from all over Korea will be shuttled to Seoul during the two-day summit, with banquet staff from the best hotels catering to their culinary needs. The preparatory committee for the summit unveiled the plans on Thursday. ◆ Transport and Accommodation The summit is massive in scale with 25 heads of government -- the G20 leaders plus the heads of five invited countries -- and seven heads of international organizations taking part. On Thursday, some 4,000 people will arrive at either Incheon International Airport or Seoul Airport in Seongnam aboard 42 chartered planes. They will stay in 3,000 rooms at 12 top-class hotels in Seoul designated by the committee. The government will supply 250 limousines to ferry the leaders and their entourage across Seoul. Heads of government will be driven around in Hyundai Equuses, and their spouses in BMW 750is or Audi A8s. The heads of international organizations will ride Chrysler 300Cs. The COEX summit venue consists of four major convention halls measuring 36,016 sq. m in total area. Each has been decorated with green wallpaper signifying environmentally friendly "green growth" and traditional Korean paper brought from Andong and Jeonju, which are famous for producing it.

◆ Creature Comforts The 15,000 participants are expected to consume 48 tons of food during the two-day event or 800 tons per meal. The banquet teams at Korea's top hotels -- Lotte, Chosun, Walker Hill, Shilla and Intercontinental -- have been assigned to provide meals to the G20 leaders. Ingredients flown in from across the nation will be used to prepare them. Some 350 mid-priced wines from France, the U.S. and New Zealand will also be featured, with the opening banquet featuring a wine called Onda d’Oro from a Korean-American vintner in California's Napa Valley. The finance ministers will be served Vaso wine. The other participants will have to make do with buffet meals, though the foreign minister will also host a banquet at his residence in Hanam-dong for visiting diplomats. ◆ Showcasing Korean Achievements The reception and banquet dinner for leaders on the first day will be held at the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan. Eleven national treasures of Korea will be put on exhibition, while Samsung's Galaxy Tab tablet PCs will be available to explain the historical significance of the artifacts in eight languages. The heads of state and their spouses will be given as souvenirs an electronic photo album containing pictures taken during their visit and a Korean cookbook.
